A health care administrator from Yakima Valley, Carlos Olivares has advocated for those without affordable, quality health care. For the last 25 years, Carlos Olivares has been the CEO and president of Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC).
Mr. Olivares has been integral to the expansion of YVFWC to 25 clinics in Washington and Oregon. The organization employs a staff of 2,300 people who serve migrant workers, low-income uninsured residents, and under-insured residents. In addition to overseeing health care services, Mr. Olivares manages community programs offered through the clinic, such as employment and training, after-school education, and rental and shelter assistance.
Mr. Olivares is also known for developing and implementing managed care contracts. He has been at the helm of the value-based contracting system and managed more than 100,000 patients under risk contracting in Washington and Oregon.
More recently, Mr. Olivares has been an advisor to the pharmacy solutions company Equiscript, helping the company generate revenue through new technologies. He also developed a system that assists new mothers with feeding their babies soon after delivery.
Mr. Olivares is a member of the Hispanic Academic Achievement Program, which offers Hispanic student scholarships for higher education. He has also served on the board of directors of Heritage University in Toppenish, Washington, and is a founding member of the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences.
